Lambies!

Way back in the dark ages of me when I was merely pregnant, I spent a weekend at my friend’s place in the Interior while Ross slaved away to paint Kale’s room. I took a tonne of pictures, but for whatever reason, never got around to doing anything with them until I was reorganizing some folders on our computer and I went through them all again. I thought some of you might get a kick out of some pictures.

My friend has a sizable property and among other things, raises sheep. Her sheep really changed my mind about sheep – I had previously thought they were just some stupid flock animals with the personalities of a bag of wool and after spending a weekend with the sheep I realized just how wrong I was. Her sheep follow you around like dogs, and come when they are called, and two of them have a fond liking of having their heads scratched. They are not at all the stupid animals I thought they were.

The breed she raises are called Clun Forest sheep and are a good all around sheep – they are good mothers, they have nice wool, and I am told have a nice meat as well. I went for a visit smack in the middle of lambing season and while none of the moms decided that the weekend I was there would be a good time to give birth, there were tonnes of little elven lambies cavorting around playing “King of the Castle” on a pile of poop, and exploring all of their little worlds. They were really funny, totally approachable, and extremely curious. Even the day-old lambies were up and at ’em, with snow on the ground. They are very hearty little critters and the moms were completely okay with us getting close to their babies.

This is my favorite photo:
