Thirty Five

Today I turn the ripe age of 35, which is supposed to be a major milestone birthday. However, the other day I was out at London Drugs looking for a card for Ross, who turns 35 in 6 days, and do you think I could find a card that said anything about 35? Nope. 30, 40, 50, 60, 25, 65, 75,70, you name it. But not 35.

But 35 is a bit of a milestone for me. When Ross and I finally moved in together, I remember having this big long conversation with him about how I wanted to be married with kids by the time I was 35. I think we actually argued about it, because there was all this talk about how he couldn’t promise that, and that infuriated me. But hark! I am married and have a child and today is my 35th birthday so I guess all that arguing was for naught.

I also remember the point at which Ross came around to the idea of children. In fact, he came around to kids before marriage. We were in the Abbotsford Airport, waiting for a flight to Calgary to visit my brother and his then-wife, and some adorable little girl toddled up to us and flirted heavily with Ross and he looked over at me and out of the blue said “Let’s have kids.”

Wait? What? Dude, you didn’t even want to move in with me. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

So then there was this whole standoff about how I wanted to be married before kids, and how he wasn’t sure he wanted to be married… it sure is funny how things turn out, isn’t it. That is, it sure is funny how things turn out MY WAY. I kid, I kid. (Okay, maybe not).

So what am I doing for my birthday?

Well, my friend Shauna and I are walking uptown and going to the post office, the health food store, and Starbucks. My friend Lindsay is coming by tonight to take me out for drinks and dessert. Thursday, I intend to go shopping and buy some new jeans with the gift card Ross bought me, and also spend my La Senza gift card from Valentine’s Day. And Friday, I have dinner plans. Last Saturday, I had a facial (best facial evah! – more on that soon) and I also went to the hockey game with my friends Jen and Eric. Most of my day today, though, will be spent rolling around on the carpet, playing with toys with this guy:

From Kale 6 to 9 months

And that suits me just fine.

  1. What a great way to spend your birthday! That child is too cute for words 🙂

Best wishes… it just gets better and better from here!!

  2. Happy Birthday to my other favorite March 23rd baby!

BTW, egg retrieval in two days so I may accomplish the partial growth of kid in the marriage/kids equation by my 35th in September…yay!

  3. Happy happy and all that. 🙂
Kale looks SO much like you in that picture- the eyes have it, dude.
Mr.Caden is crawling and getting into everything. ALso, pulling up to stand and cruising sideways.
Oh how I long for the days where he would just wiggle and cry. We had it so EASY then!
