Mini-Gardener Kale

With the weather decidedly improving lately, we’ve been dusting off the pruners and clipping things and soil-amending like it’s going out of style. Since Kale is no longer Blob-That-Doesn’t-Move and has quickly become Boy-Who-Never-Is-Still, he often comes with us when we are out on the patio or along the pathway doing gardening-type things. And by “us”, I should really say Ross since I stick to containers and pots and things that I’ve been told to do and Ross is the main gardening expert in our house.

Anyway, like all boys, Kale had his first inquisitive taste of dirt the other day while out “helping” Daddy divide Black-Eyed Susans, and apparently he liked it so much that this morning, when he was “helping” me re-pot and divide some succulents on the patio, he thought he should have another round of dirt. I was having a hard time deciding whether I should care when the dirt gets shoved in his cakehole, and have decided that unless it becomes a habit, I’m going to go with the theory that all little children need to experiment and if it’s just good ol’ soil (and not chemically fertilized something or other) then I’m not going to worry too much.

Mmmm…. delicious dirt.

Besides gardening, we had some friends over for a visit yesterday (hi guys!) and had yummy Wun-Tun and Hot and Sour Soup for dinner. Saturday was a hugely busy day and we ran errands all stinkin’ day. Ross and I are doing some home improvements, and so one of those errands was a stop at the lighting store where we ordered some new fixtures to replace the lights in our kitchen and living room, since two are no longer working and none of them match which drives me CRAZY and has since we moved in four years ago. Kale also tried on a new hat:

Kale has also started holding his tongue on the roof of his mouth, and making that awesome click click noise when you suction your tongue OFF the roof of your mouth, which cracks me up. Also, we pulled some new jammies out of the “next size” box!
