December 14: Appreciate. What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year? How do you express gratitude for it?
Time. Oh man. Time. My life operates in such an incredibly complicated schedule. I wrote a series of posts earlier this year, about what it’s like to work from home. In part 3, I detailed what the reality is. Last night I gave notice at my employer of 13 years, at which I was still completing a few shifts a week. By submitting my resignation, all of my work will now take place here, at this stand desk, and so more than ever, my time is incredibly well planned out. In fact, writing this post is throwing a wrench into the works, as I should be writing a proposal for a potential client (’tis okay though, this client doesn’t know I am proposing and it is not based on a deadline).
Time is fluid and depending upon how much you upend the bottle, it goes faster or slower. Watching Kale grow is something I could do more of – I don’t want to hurry up and get to a certain age. Finding time for work – the reality that is our mortgage payment – seems impossible.
But somehow we manage, to make time and find time and witness time pass. I am grateful that I still feel my head above water and still feel I can make it all work. And if I haven’t said it enough this year: Thank you, Time, for not being a jerk.
This year, I appreciate time.
