#Reverb10: Soul Food

You know, one of my favourite things to nibble on and make is these Reduced Fat Almond Thumbprint Cookies. I like the process of making these, and the culmination of jam and cookie. I really enjoyed making these over and over with Kale. These are cookies of love for me. These are cookies that Kale loves because he gets to squish his finger into the cookie dough ball and make a well for jam, and these are the cookies that mean licking sticky jam off fingers.

Cookies are the awesome.

However, there are two things that trump these cookies. One is Cinnamon Sticky Buns I made from scratch. Cinnamon buns take a ridiculously long time – the dough needs to rise and they need to chill overnight… they’re a total pain. But they are nothing but heaven in my mouth.  I use the Cinnamon Sticky Bun recipe from Simply Recipes.

And the other thing that trumps both of these two treats I love to make is the brunch I had with Ross on Valentine’s Day at The (now closed) Cannery. It wasn’t the food as much as the time together in a beautiful setting. I had Eggs Benedict – it was nothing special but very well made and certainly delicious.

  1. The Sticky Buns are on my list of things to try out.. Love Simply Recipes!

    Not only is the Cannery closed, they tore the whole building down within days of the restaurant closing. Couldn’t believe how fast they demolished it.

  2. Here’s a bit of a cinnamon roll cheat – you can make up a batch of tea biscuit dough, roll it out flat, and then, instead of cutting it into rounds, spread the cinnamon/brown sugar mixture over it, roll it up like a jelly roll, then cut into slices and bake.

    Those thumbprint cookies look gorgeous!
