Here’s a cute story from this morning to melt your heart on Valentine’s Day. Our houseguest has gone home as of this morning, and as you tend to do when you have visitors, I’ve now got 30 loads of laundry I’m catching up on. I don’t even know what all there is to wash, but the bins are full so Kale and I have been in full swing all day with the chore of laundry. Which is good, really, as it’s pelting rain and I don’t want to do anything else.
Sidenote: I admit, I actually like laundry. I like the smell of hot fabric and the soothing, repetitive ka-thunka-ka-thunka of the washing machine. I have always liked it. Sometimes I procrastinate about getting it done, but I feel satisfied when I do it.
Anyway, Kale and I went downstairs a while ago to collect and fold the finished load in the dryer. He’s really into helping these days so I give him simple chores. Today, his chore was to take the things out of the dryer and hand them to me to fold.
Having had his cousin here for just over a week obviously had an effect. As we were doing our laundry chores, Kale pulled the first thing out and it was a towel. He told me he’d show me how to fold the towel. I asked him what to do and he said “First, you put the towel on the floor, like dis,” and he did just that, very serious about his instruction. “Then, you fold it,” and he crunched it into a ball and handed it to me. “Here you go, Mummy!”
He then proceeded to pull each piece out of the dryer and exclaim over how lovely and warm it was and rubbed each item slowly on his cheeks before handing it to me with an appreciative “Mmmmm….. warm.”
My heart, it melted.
